*Garden and Agriculture in Maryland* by Hannah Kinast
Gardens
The gardens at Jubilee Farm and Woodlawn are very beautiful and big. There are many different
plants. Bushes, flowers and trees decorate the whole area around the farms and the creek, There are also many insects, spiders, butterflies, mantises and bugs, what is very good for the environment.
The area around the wedding barns is very well decorated and groomed. Working in the gardens,
weeding and pruning is an inspiring exercise. During our internship at Jubilee and Woodlawn we learned many skills and gained know-how about plants.
Agriculture
The landscape of Maryland is very diverse. The main crops are corn, sweet corn, sovbeans and
vegetables. Also dairy products, chicken eggs and meat is produced in this beautiful state. Earlier in the 19th century tobacco was the main crop produced by farmers. The weather is very
hot and humid and it rains sufficiently during the hottest period, usually the last two weeks of July and the first week of August.
Maryland has a very fertile and productive soil.
