Woodlawn is an historic property on the National Registry, country home of Maryland’s colonial governor, Leonard Calvert. Established in 1634, it was originally 600 acres. Two hundred acres are intact today.
In 1792 Colonel Matthias Clarke finished a magnificent home at Woodlawn with hand-hewn mantles bordered by ceiling to floor cabinets, grand room wainscoting and a carved wood and paneled staircase. The grand Manor House was Colonel Clarke’s tribute to the New Republic of America, for which he fought in the Revolutionary War and to which he felt a spirited allegiance.
Almost two hundred fifty years since then, Woodlawn is a beautifully preserved tidewater estate: historic, natural, pristine and private.
Woodlawn is an extraordinary place for a wedding, reunion or special event.
